Alex Garvin & Associates has been asked to study approximately 685 acres surrounding the intersection of North Druid Hills Road and Briarcliff Road in DeKalb County, Georgia, for the purpose of creating a master plan. The area of the study is bounded by I-85, Holly Lane, Cliff Valley Way, and Sheffield Drive. Private property owners and developers are currently formulating plans for redevelopment of almost half of this area, and other property owners within the area may also be interested in developing their properties. At the request of Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon, the County Commissioners with jurisdiction over this area, the Livable Communities Coalition has asked Alex Garvin & Associates to work with stakeholders to create a cohesive plan for this area, including a public realm framework of roads and open space.
Public Participation Process
Alex Garvin & Associates will also lead a public participation process that engages all the major stakeholders and informs the public at every step of the way. Each month, at significant markers in the planning process, Alex Garvin & Associates will meet with the stakeholders and will then make a presentation to the public of the work and findings of the planning process. In between these meetings, Alex Garvin & Associates will be in communication with property owners, county officials, and community leaders to coordinate work, solicit input, and ensure that all the players are kept abreast of the latest developments. Alex Garvin & Associates believes that an open process that focuses on the quality of the public realm—the study area’s streets, park areas, sidewalks, etc.—will produce the best plan for the county, the property owners, and the public.
